BAFLIAZ (POONCH), June 5: Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana on Wednesday exposed People’s Democratic Party and Bharatiya Janata Party for hatching a conspiracy in 2008 to trifurcate Jammu and Kashmir and said that Amarnath land row was manifestation of their sinister designs to divide the State on communal lines.
Addressing a party workers meeting at Buflaiz in Poonch this afternoon, Mr Rana said that senior PDP and BJP leaders worked out a strategy to incite communal passions at secret meetings in New Delhi which was facilitated by a Jammu based senior BJP leader.
The two parties, he said, struck simultaneously in Srinagar and Jammu and put the entire State on boil by bringing the two regions and the two communities face to face. “It was a double-edged weapon”, he said, while elaborating that their plan was not only to destroy the secular fabric of the state but also to pull down the Congress led Coalition Government to plunge the State into political instability.
Describing the 2008 agitation as most testing time for the State, the Provincial President said that PDP and BJP had nearly succeeded in polarising the situation but for the firm stand taken by National Conference. He said that politically sagacious people, by and large, understood the dirty game plan of the two parties and helped in restoring sanity in a most volatile situation.
“Seeing their game-plan getting grounded, PDP created an ugly situation by deciding to boycott the polls”, he said, adding that National Conference understood the mischief and plunged into electoral process in a big way. The imitative had a positive impact and the situation became conducive with normalcy heralding across the State. He said that power hungry PDP got unnerved with the changing scenario and decided to participate in elections, after getting nod from its BJP mentors.
Describing PDP and BJP as two faces of the same coin, Mr Rana said that they did not stop in their deceptive tactics and exploited to hilt the regional and communal sentiments during electioneering. “Despite their sinister designs, they failed in weakening National Conference which maintained its supremacy at the strength of people’s support and emerged as the single largest party”, he added.
Mr Rana cautioned people that the PDP and BJP have not given up their wolfish nature despite losing teeth and asked them to guard against their tentacles.
Speaking on the occasion, Peer Mushtaq Ahmad Bukhari, vice president and former Minister said that nobody should nurture misgivings about the party’s performance in the ensuing husting as National Conference is a strong fort which can withstand all challenges with fortitude.
Addressing the party workers, Ajaz Jan MLA Poonch said that reaching out to people in every area of the State in the process of development has been made benchmark of the Omar Abdullah led Government.
MLC Shehnaz Ganai while addressing the gathering said that National Conference has always kept public interest above all considerations and said that the National Conference will continue to represent the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
