JAMMU, Mar 17: Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana today envisioned larger role for Non Governmental Organizations and philanthropic associations in supplementing efforts of empowering women through education.
Speaking at a function organized by Harbans Bhalla Educational Trust (HBET) to distribute scholarships among poor segments of students, Mr Rana hoped that private players will work in tandem with Governmental agencies for achieving the objective of improving female literacy and creating conditions wherein women can play their useful role in healthy growth of society.
The Provincial President urged NGOs to help in generating awareness among women about various initiatives launched for their empowerment and motivating them to benefit from welfare schemes. In this regard, he referred to the recent budgetary provisions of Rs 30, 000 each for the marriage of matriculate girls belonging to Below Poverty Line population. He also sought larger coverage of targeted sections of girls under the Anmol Beti scheme launched by the Government.
Mr Rana lauded HBET for its endeavour in enhancing educational capabilities of poor girls and noted with satisfaction some of them pursuing professional, higher and other job oriented courses. He requested the Trustees to identify deserving girls eligible for various benefits and help them seek these from the designated departments. The Trust, he said, should work as a bridge between the implementing agencies and the beneficiaries.
The Provincial President exuded confidence that involvement of philanthropic organizations will greatly help in bringing about desired socio-economic transformation in the society. He asked haves to come forward in a big way in helping the have-nots to enable them lead harmonious and healthy life. He particularly sought greater care and compassion for girl children.
Speaking on the occasion, Managing Trustee HBET, Kunil Bhalla advised the students to make full use of scholarships and other support schemes. He also advised parents to remain supporting in the education of their wards and reiterated that the Trust will continue to support the needy children with renewed passion.
Mr Rana distributed scholarship sponsored by the Trust among the needy students. Till date, 2773 scholarships amounting over Rs 76 lakh have been distributed.
The students presented a colourful cultural programme on the occasion which was appreciated by the audience.
