JAMMU, Sept 20: National Conference Provincial President Devender Singh Rana today lashed out at PDP-BJP dispensation for pushing Jammu and Kashmir to wall by not only putting the security of people in jeopardy but also by failing on deliverance front.
“A chaotic like situation is prevailing as Kashmir is simmering with unrest for the past 74 days and Jammu is suffering for want of basic services”, Rana said while addressing striking daily and need-based workers of Public Health Engineering Department here this afternoon.
He wondered over the policy paralysis of the Coalition Government, saying despite two and half years the issue with regard to regularisation of daily wagers and need -based workers of various departments, especially PHE Department have not been sorted out.
“The Omar Abdullah led Government had verified nearly 24,000 out of 64,000 such cases for regularisation, which could not be cleared due to Model Code of Conduct in 2014 but the present dispensation has not made any forward movement in this regard, as a result of which the affected people have been forced to take to streets and keep off the work”, he said, adding that in the process the people were suffering for want of tap water.
He said since the Government is a continued process, the PDP-BJP Government ought to have sought the records for taking final decision with regard to regularisations of these workers. “The basic exercise had been conducted and the Government had only to physically verify those who had to be regularised”, he said while expressing surprise whether the present dispensation is even aware about work-done in this regard.
“The PDP-BJP Government is taking sadistic pleasure in the sufferings of the people, be they the workers engaged in utility services or the beneficiaries”, he said and expressed anguish over acute scarcity of drinking water, especially in Jammu City.
Questioning the logic of the Government regarding utility of these workers, the Provincial President said that had they not been instrumental in running pumping stations and other related works, the supply of drinking water would not have come to standstill. He held the Government squarely responsible for the water crisis, saying this is due to ignoring genuine aspirations of the work-force, some of whom have been working for decades.
He took a jibe over the slogan of Ache Din and said that if anyone is beneficiary of this much hyped mantra, it is the BJP lawmakers, leaders and their cronies. “The dream of Ache Din and Swachh Bharat is exploding in the form of slum like Jammu, which the BJP had promised to be transformed like Singapore”, he added.
Pledging support of National Conference to the striking workers, Rana said that they were within their rights to protest peacefully in a democratic manner.
Rana hoped that good sense will prevail upon the Government and the issues with regard to regularisation of need based workers is sorted out once for all.
