6 NC, 2 Congress Councillors join hands to form DDC at Ramban

JAMMU, Jan 2: The recently elected Councillors of the National Conference and the Congress in Ramban district today resolved to join hands and form the District Development Council in the larger interest of the development in the area and to strengthen the secular forces, as per urges and aspirations of the people.
Soon after arriving at the decision, the six Councillors of the National Conference Dr Shamshad Shan, Shamim Akhter, Sakhi Mohammed, Gulshan Parveen, Jagveer Dass and Mohammed Shafi Zargar and the two Councillors of the Congress Imtiyaz Ahmed Khandey and Bashir Ahmed Naik, led by the district presidents of the respective parties, called on Provincial President Devender Singh Rana here and pledged to work for respecting the mandate of the people.
The eight Councillors, in their interaction with the media present on the occasion, reaffirmed their pledge to further strengthen the NC-Congress alliance for holistic development of the Ramban District.
Rana lauded the former Congress minister Vikar Rasool, former MLA and Provincial Vice President Dr Chaman Lal Bhagat besides District President National Conference Sajjad Shaheen for their political sagacity in reaching a consensus to form the District Development Council and honouring the mandate of the people of Ramban which was clearly for National Conference.
Hailing the decision and complimenting the Councillors of both the parties, the Provincial President said the initiative emanating from the ground zero will not only lead to formation of a strong and stable district council but also check the horse-trading elsewhere in Jammu and Kashmir, unleashed by defeated political outfits, who are desperate to reverse the mandate of the people.
Rana said the unanimity and political sagacity shown by the Councillors of the Ramban district is a terse warning to such elements in the administration, who are conniving to mutilate the democratic process at the behest of the BJP and the other political parties with vested interest.
He lauded the efforts of the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha for ensuring peaceful conduct of polls, saying this has to be taken to a logical conclusion by checking the unethical manoeuvring by certain elements. He hoped the Lieutenant Governor will keep his word in allowing democracy to flourish as per will of the people and rein in the elements in the administration, who are creating an atmosphere of fear by allegedly harassing some of the elected representatives to toe a particular line in formation of the district councils.
The Provincial President said the example of the Ramban district can be emulated in other districts also to keep the communal and opportunistic forces at bay. This is a call of the political situation that has emerged after the elections to the District Development Councils.
Taking jibe at the BJP and its proxies in the political arena, the Provincial President said they had written off the National Conference but the results have once again established its premier space in the political spectrum of Jammu and Kashmir. Not only in Kashmir but in Jammu as well, the election results have unnerved these parties and they were feeling the ground under their feet shaking. The nervousness in the wake of adverse results has left the BJP rank and file desperate, as two of its former ministers have lost their seats in the council segments and the BJP Pradesh President and a sitting MP could not save the turf in their home constituencies, he added.
Vikar Rasool, Dr Chaman Lal and Sajjad Shaheen also spoke on the occasion and emphasised the need for mutual cooperation for taking forward the alliance to meet the political challenges and satiating urges of the people.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included former MLC and Provincial Secretary National Conference Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, District President Kishtwar Tanvir Ahmed Kichloo besides Arif Magrey, Arif Mir and Zaffar-Ullah Rather.
