NAGROTA, Mar 21: Asking National Conference cadre to redouble their efforts to facilitate impressive victory of Ghulam Nabi Azad and Madan Lal Sharma from Udhampur and Jammu parliamentary constituencies respectively in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Provincial President Devender Singh Rana today said that grass roots level units of his party across the Jammu region have been converted into election offices with senior leaders supervising the campaigning.
“National Conference activists have plunged into electioneering with a missionary spirit as the ensuing elections are a direct fight between divisive elements and uniting forces”, Mr Rana said while addressing workers at several places in Nagrota constituency.
The Provincial President reminded workers of their crucial role, especially in a situation where opponents were employing unethical tactics by exploiting regional and religious sentiments to incite passions. “They have lost their sense of proportion, which is reflected in their desperate bid to polarise the society and vitiate the atmosphere for deriving political mileage”, he said adding that National Conference had therefore an added responsibility, not only to thwart their ugly machinations but to strengthen the bonds of amity and unity.
He said his party believes in homogeneity of the society where all segments of people, irrespective of their religious or political affiliations, can live with a sense of dignity and honour. “This is the spirit and legacy bequeathed to the foot-soldiers of the party, who have always remained in the forefront to preserve unity and promoting harmony in the society”, he said, adding that this uniqueness has enabled National Conference to weather all storms during most testing times of history.
Mr Rana said that National Conference has distinction of being the only party with a massive presence in every nook and corner of the State. “There fore, we have to use this strength to create a healthy political edifice which is capable of meeting the challenges with valour and fortitude”, he maintained.
The Provincial President described National Conference as custodian of public interest, which, he said, has been in service of the people whether in Government or outside it. “During the past over five years, Omar led Government has laid strong foundation of development in each sector and initatid measures aimed at making the administration accountable and responsive to the aspirations of people”, he said and outlined the achievements registered on different fronts.
