UDHAMPUR, Apr 11: Decrying war yells being raised by BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate to derive electoral mileage, Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana today said the hostile borders have always rendered the people of Jammu and Kashmir vulnerable.
“There is no alternative to peace and friendly relations with neighbours”, Mr Rana observed while addressing a series of election meetings in Udhampur, saying the impact of border skirmishes is being felt more by the people alongside IB in Hiranagar, Kathua besides other forward areas and not in Delhi or Ahmadabad.
Mr Rana deplored the attempts being made to vitiate the peace by inciting passions, saying this will only help the external forces who remain always in look out to destabilise the State. “Our people have braved the brunt in immense measure; we have seen our valiant people of Kathua borders getting uprooted from their homes and hearths in the wake of skirmishes”, he said, hoping that those trying to derive political capital by creating hype should understand this. “Instead of giving lever to peace inimical forces, they should work for strengthening the bonds of amity and brotherhood”, he added
Accompanied by Jugal Mahajan, Choudhry Shafi, Sunil Verma, Rampurshotam Sharma besides Congress leaders Ravinder Sharma and Brij Mohan, he addressed the election meetings at Udhampur, Krimchi, Jaganoo, Chakad, Tikri and Panchari
The Provincial President said unlike other states of the country, Jammu and Kashmir is confronted with peculiar situations. “This is the state that has been abode of the people belonging to different faiths, who have been living in harmony for centuries together”, he said adding that any attempt to vitiate this atmosphere will be detrimental to the larger national interest.
“By raising war hysteria, the peace-inimical elements were playing with the interests of the people, who have undergone a long spell of disturbances”, he said and referred to the miseries brought by successive wars in this region. He recalled the havoc created by bombing in Jibb village of Udhampur in 1971 and said the people of the region are still haunted by the devastation caused in border areas.
Referring to the ongoing elections, Mr Rana described these as a battle of principles and exuded confidence the people will vote and support those who believe in harmony, equality and dignity for all, irrespective of religion, region and cast.
“The alliance candidate Ghulam Nabi Azad represents this thought, which he has practiced all along his four decade career in public life single-mindedly”, Mr Rana said. He added: “Support to Mr Azad will be vote to continuity and growth”.
Taking jibe at those toeing negative line by dividing people on communal and regional basis, Mr Rana said BJP has no role in Jammu and Kashmir politics. “Though it is on the path of misadventure in the company of PDP yet the public resistance will render these parties irrelevant”, he said, adding that self-generating euphoria is destined to be grounded on the face of strong wave in favour the alliance candidates.
