JAMMU, July 4: Asking that Goods and Services Tax (GST) already rolled out across India except J&K, the fate of the State’s trade with other States hangs in the balance, Shri Ram Sena, Jammu and Kashmir, asked Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCI) Jammu and other traders associations to stop the supply of goods from Jammu to Kashmir for one week so that Kashmir based political parties and traders organizations evolve a consensus on implementation of the GST in the State.
Talking to reporters here, today State president, Shri Ram Sena, Rajiv Mahajan said that State Government has so far failed to implement GST in the State, particularly after opposition from political parties, business community and civil society groups in the Kashmir valley.
Rajiv said Jammu and Kashmir would face disadvantages as consumers have to pay double tax if GST was not implemented in the State.
“They have to pay the double taxes on both imports and exports. Goods coming from outside will be first charged as per GST, then the State will levy its own taxes, making the products costlier,” he said.
He said once goods supply to Kashmir valley be suspended the traders body in Valley face huge loss and sill change their mindset and prefer to implementation in GST in the State.
Rajiv also asked the business community from Valley to “decide whether they want to continue doing trade with Jammu or not.” “We are peace-loving people. We have good business ties with Kashmir traders,” Rajiv said and asked Jammu traders to stop goods supply to Valley if Kashmir traders refuse to implement GST in the State.
