Rajnath Singh discusses bilateral defence and security cooperation with Australian counterpart on phone

NEW DELHI: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and his Australian counterpart Linda Reynolds on Tuesday conveyed their commitment to take forward the initiatives of bilateral defence and security cooperation.

Both the ministers agreed to take forward the initiatives under the framework of the India-Australia Strategic Partnership.

During their telephonic interaction, the two defence ministers had discussions on their respective responses against the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Defence said.

Mr Singh informed Ms Reynolds on India’s contribution to international efforts against COVID-19 and discussed areas of mutual cooperation in the global fight against the pandemic.

In a tweet, Mr Singh said, “Had an excellent telephonic conversation with the Defence Minister of Australia, Ms Linda Reynolds. We discussed the responses of both the countries and also the possible areas of mutual cooperation between India and Australia against the COVID-19 pandemic.”

They also agreed that India-Australia Strategic Partnership provides a good basis for both countries to work together along with other countries in this regard to deal with the post COVID-19 related challenges.        (AGENCIES)
