NEW DELHI, Feb 11 : Two-day International Conference on Unani Medicine began here today with a call by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Union DoNER Minister Dr Jitendra Singh for integrated health care and holistic approach in medical management. The conference commemorating the “Unani Day” was devoted to the theme  of “Unani Medicine – Towards Achieving the Sustainable Goal of Good Health and Well-being”.
Rajnath Singh was the chief guest on the occasion while Dr Jitendra Singh was the Guest of Honour. Union AYUSH Minister Sripad Yesso Naik presided over the inaugural ceremony.
In his address, Rajnath Singh hailed the virtues of the Unani system of Medicine and said it had been practiced for several centuries. He said, he had heard from the experts about various merits and advantages of Unani treatment for different diseases.
Rajnath Singh also stressed on the health and well-being of individuals. He said, Unani and other Indian systems of medicine were also known to raise the immunity and resistance power in the human body.
Dr Jitendra Singh hailed the Modi Government for ensuring for  AYUSH and other oriental systems of medicine the kind of respect that they deserve. He said, it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi who set up the first- ever separate Ministry of AYUSH under the Government of India and added that the name of Sripad Yesso Naik will go down in the history as the first AYUSH Minister of  India.
Dr Jitendra Singh suggested hospital based management through simultaneous multi-chamber consultation, wherein experts from Allopathy, AYUSH, Yoga and Unani could sit in the same  premises and offer consultation together instead of seeing the patients separately. This, he said, could check malpractices and also avoid working at cross- purposes.
AYUSH  Minister Shripad Yesso Naik presented an elaborate detail of new AYUSH hospitals and set-ups established in the last five years across the country. He also mentioned the introduction of MD Unani Medicine in Srinagar and over 50 AYUSH hospitals across the country.
On the occasion, awards were presented to some of the eminent Physicians and Scholars of Unani Medicine.
Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH Rajesh Kotecha and Director General CCRUM, Prof Asim Ali Khan also spoke on the occasion.
