JAMMU : Minister for Urban Local Bodies and Urban Development Nawang Rigzin Jora today said a centrally sponsored scheme ‘Rajiv Awas Yojana’ has been introduced in the state for the development and welfare of people living in the slum areas of the state.
Replying to a question asked by the MLA Bharat Bhushan in the House today, the Minister said, “the survey is underway to identify the potential beneficiaries under this scheme”.
He said in the first phase, Srinagar, Baramulla and Anatnag in Kashmir province and Jammu, Kathua and Udhampur in Jammu province would be taken up for execution of the scheme.
“The total population of slum areas in the cities of Jammu and Srinagar is 2.07 lakh out of which 199557 belong to Srinagar city and 7997 slum dwellers are in Jammu city,” he said adding that the IHSDP Rs 35 crore were spent for the betterment of housing needs of the people of these areas.
