JAMMU, Apr 13: Senior leader of the National Conference, Rajesh Gupta, today urged Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to personally intervene and take stringent steps to address the worsening traffic situation in Jammu.
Gupta expressed concern over rising congestion, increasing pollution levels, and frequent traffic violations, stating that the situation continues to deteriorate despite repeated directions and high-level meetings. He alleged administrative inaction and lack of accountability, saying enforcement agencies have failed to respond effectively.
He emphasized that while governance plays a key role, public cooperation is equally essential. He appealed to citizens to follow traffic rules, maintain lane discipline, and avoid reckless driving, noting that policies alone cannot succeed without responsible public behavior.
Raising concerns over the Pollution Under Control (PUC) system, he alleged that vehicles emitting visible smoke continue to operate with valid certificates, and called for a transparent audit and strict action against violators. He stressed the need for stricter enforcement, real-time monitoring and awareness campaigns to ensure safer roads and cleaner air.
