JAMMU, Dec 29: Coordination between the investigating and prosecuting agencies is imperative to ensure that victims are extended relief and culprits are brought to justice. Enforcement of rule of law and punishment to criminals is necessary to make the society crime free and prosecution wing of the department has an important role in this regard.
This was stated by Director General of Police (DGP), K Rajendra Kumar, while chairing a meeting of Chief Prosecuting Officers of Jammu Province at Police Headquarters (PHQ) here today.
He said that detection and prevention of crime is imperative to provide a secure and congenial atmosphere in the society, but at the same time prosecutors have an important role in determining the fate of the accused and safeguard the interests of the nation.
The meeting was convened to discuss and improve the working of prosecutors for the logical conclusion of criminal cases. Attended by other senior officers of prosecution wing, the meeting also discussed the status of Motor Vehicle Act cases and their immediate repercussion. Execution of warrants was also discussion in the meeting.
While discussing rate of conviction, the meeting was informed that during the last two years 6,459 persons were convicted, besides Rs. 23.30 crore realised as fine from the offenders in different cases in Jammu Province.
Mr. Rajendra asked the prosecutors to improve their proficiency and keep themselves updated with the latest amendments in the law to bring the cases to their logical end. He said that effective monitoring at different levels and cooperation among the agencies with the judiciary is of vital importance to fight the cases with the spirit of impartiality and honesty. He asked for speedy disposal of seized properties on merits to save them from damages.
The DGP stressed organizing workshops, interaction sessions and symposiums at different levels to generate awareness about various laws. He said that coordination among the different agencies ensuring rule of law is necessary which should be ensured at all levels. Discussions with executive agencies in concluding the cases would prove fruitful, said the DGP.
At the concluding session, IGP Jammu Zone, Danish Rana also addressed the meeting and threw light on various professional aspects of investigation by agencies.
Earlier, Director Prosecution (PHQ), Pawan Gupta briefed the meeting about the functioning of prosecution wings in the division and status with respect to various cases.
The meeting was also attended by, Joint Director Prosecution PHQ, Gowhar Hussain Mir, AIG (P) PHQ, Tahir Sajad and all Chief Prosecuting Officers of Jammu Province.
