JAMMU, Nov 10: Director General of Police (DGP), K. Rajendra Kumar has said that crime investigating agencies, owing to their important role, have to improve their functioning by adopting modern techniques of investigation for speedy disposal of crime cases.
Mr. Rajendra was chairing a high level meeting of police officers at Zonal Police Headquarters here today. The meeting was convened to review functioning of different wings of the Organization, which was attended by IGP Crime, Muneer Ahmed Khan, IGP Jammu Zone, Danish Rana and DIG Traffic. Viplav Kumar, besides range DIGs and District Superintendents of Police of Jammu Zone.
Addressing the meeting, Mr. Rajendra highlighted the importance of investigating agencies in dealing with the crime cases. He said agencies need to further improve their working by adopting latest techniques of investigation. “Cyber crimes are posing a great challenge to the investigators and we have to sharpen our skills to detect such crimes”, said Mr. Rajendra.
The DGP disclosed that crime control and detection is our prime responsibility and the investigating agencies have to put in place coordinated efforts to bring the culprits to justice and conclude the cases on merits. He said that the criminals, with the changing scenario, are using different strategies and modes of crime. It is the need of time that the investigators improve their proficiency and strengthen investigation methods on modern lines, he added.
Mr. Rajendra, deliberating on the consequences of social evils said that such evils lead to grave crimes giving a daunting task for the law enforcement agencies. He said that JKP has already taken various initiatives to spread awareness among the youth about bad effects of drug abuse. “We have established drug de-edition centres at Srinagar and Jammu where a number of affected youth have been treated, besides counseling by the experts. We are continuously focusing on the subject to eradicate the menace which is destroying energies of our future generation. The efforts are yielding good results”, the DGP added.
Discussing traffic management in the State, Mr. Rajendra called for effective monitoring and supervision for bringing visible changes in the working of traffic police. He said that flow of surface traffic has been on alarming rise which has doubled the responsibility of traffic police. Besides penalizing the violators, all stakeholders should coordinate in bringing visible improvements in the system on ground, Mr. Rajendra added.
The DGP stressed on people’s cooperation and awareness about various rules and responsibilities to achieve desired results in professional policing. He said that cooperation is of vital importance in crime detection and adherence of rules at all levels. He said that awareness about the role of the citizens in crime detection, traffic management and bad effects of drug abuse should be highlighted by organizing public interaction programmes at various levels.
Later, the DGP commissioned new traffic headquarters at Channi Rama and police post building at Chatta Sujwan.
The DGP was accompanied by ADGPs, SP Vaid, Navin Aggerwal, SM Sahai and L. Mohanty, IGPs, AK Choudhary, MS Salaria, Danish Rana, DIGs, Viplav Kumar and Ashkoor Ahmed Wani, SSP Jammu, Uttam Chand, AIG Building, SZ Azad, X-En. PCD, Rashid Mustafa and other police officers.
