Rains lash Valley

Srinagar, Apr 8: After dry spell and increased temperatures in March and April, fresh spell of rains lashed Kashmir and higher reaches had light snowfall bringing respite for the people especially farmers.
Kashmir valley was lashed by intermittent rains today bringing down the temperature and forcing people to wear woolens which they had shed off due to increased temperatures in March and April.
Upper reaches of Pahalgam, including Chandanwari and hills of North Kashmir received fresh light snowfall. The Meteorological department has forecast wet weather for three more days.
A MeT Department spokesperson said that light rain and thundershowers would occur at many places during the next 24 hours under the influence of a fresh Western Disturbance (WD), which originated from the Arabian Sea and hit the region, late on Saturday night.
“Rain would occur at most places in the Valley during the subsequent three days from Monday under the influence of this WD,” he said.

The spokesman said that temperatures which were several degrees above normal for this time of the year will drop considerably during these days. “Minimum temperatures will be around 13 degree Celsius and 9 degree Celsius respectively”, he said.
Srinagar recorded a low of 10.8 degrees Celsius while the day temperature was recorded at 20. 0 degrees Celsius.
The night temperature in Qazigund in South Kashmir settled at 8. 2 degrees Celsius while the day temperature was recorded at 23.1 degrees Celsius.
Kokernag town recorded a low of 10.6 degrees Celsius  while the day temperature was 21.6 degrees Celsius.
Kupwara in North Kashmir recorded a low of 8.1 degrees Celsius while the day temperature was 16.4 degrees Celsius.
Gulmarg recorded a minimum temperature of 5.3 degrees Celsius while the day temperature was 11.2 degrees Celsius.
Pahalgam recorded a low of 7.5 degrees Celsius while the day temperature was 18.9 degrees Celsius.
Kargil settled at 1.6 degrees Celsius while the day temperature was recorded at 19.5 degrees Celsius.
Leh town settled at a low of 3.2 degrees Celsius while the day temperature was recorded at 19.8 degrees Celsius.
