JAMMU, May 2: Fresh rainfall in many parts of J&K has brought down temperature much to the respite of the people while as two women were killed when a cloudburst hit a remote village this evening in Kishtwar district.
Many places in Jammu and Kashmir experienced fresh rainfall today bringing down the temperature and providing respite to the people from the mercury which was rising continuously during the past some days. MeT spokesman has said that rainfall will continue for the few more days across Jammu and Kashmir. However, the vehicular movement on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway resumed after remaining suspended for about 28 hours.
“The highway was closed yesterday at 9:30 am due to shooting stones at Cafeteria Morh and Panthyal areas in district Ramban. Around 700 trucks carrying essential commodities and 40 buses carrying passengers (quarantined) were plying on the highway towards Srinagar”, official sources said, adding “subject to fair weather and good road condition tomorrow, the traffic movement on the highway will be allowed from Srinagar to Jammu”.
The Mughal road is closed due to accumulated snow, sources, said, adding that subject to fair weather and good road condition, only essential commodity vehicles will be allowed to ply on the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari road.
Meanwhile, two persons including a teenager girl were killed when a cloudburst hit a remote village in Kishtwar district.
“A 17 year-old-girl and a 32-year-old woman died when cloudburst hit this evening at around 1730 hours in Chatroo area”, Rajinder Singh Tara, Deputy Commissioner, Kishtwar said.
He said that both of them were grazing cattle when the incident took place and they were washed away in Batwari Nullah.
The deceased have been identified as Gulshana (17), daughter of Bashir Ahmad and Hajira Begum, 32, wife of Jameel, both residents of Batwari Chatroo. Their bodies were recovered 3-kilometres away from the spot, said the Deputy Commissioner.
After completing medical and legal formalities, the bodies of the deceased were handed over to legal heirs for last rites.
Chatroo police has taken cognizance in this regard.
