Jammu, Sept 13: A National CME on hands on workshop was inaugurated by Prof R.K.Raina, former Principal Govt. Medical College Jammu. This workshop was organized by Deptt. of Pharmacology of ASCOMS & GMC, Jammu jointly in association with Mahatma Gandhi Doerenkemp Centre, Bhartidasan University Tiruchirapalli in collaboration with International Medical Sciences Academy Jammu Chapter and Indian Society for Rational Pharmaco- therapeutics J&K Chapter.
On this occasion, a fully computerized teaching laboratory for experimental pharmacology was also inaugurated. This demonstration lab is the first of its kind established in North India. It has 20 computer terminals loaded with simulated exercise software for teaching of undergraduate students. The laboratory has been established by the persistent efforts of D.K.Batra, Jt. Secretary, Dr. R.P.Kudyar, Director Principal and Dr. Pavan Malhotra, Prof & Head Pharmacology and the students were really excited to work on the computers in the experimental lab where they never liked to go due to animal killing.
D.K.Batra, Jt. Secretary, ASCOMS and Dr. Anil Mahajan, Prof & HoD Medicine GMC Jammu were the guests of honour. Dr. R.K.Raina while speaking on the occasion appreciated the efforts of the management and Deptt. of Pharmacology to have organized such academic event. More than 100 delegates from all over the country besides the undergraduate and the postgraduates of both the premium institutes participated in the event.
While welcoming the guests, Dr.  Pavan Malhotra, Organizing Secretary thanked all the guests and gave the overview of animal experimentation in the country. Dr. Vishal R Tandon of GMC Jammu spoke on current scenario of animal experimentation in India. Dr. R.P.Kudyar while speaking on the inaugural function said that animal experimentation has the basis in the development of modern medicine. Dr. Anil Mahajan spoke on the role of regulatory authorities on this issue. Dr. M.A.Akbarsha, Director MGDC, Bhartidasan University, Tiruchirapalli while delivering the key note address, emphasised on the role of experimentation in education and research. Dr. Ravinder K Gupta, Professor of Pediarics & Secretary IMSA – Jammu Chapter presented vote of thanks. After the inauguration the scientific programme started and the workshop ended with hands on training and on screen demonstration in the newly setup Experimental Pharmacology Laboratory.
