Rain, snow to bring relief from extreme temperatures

SRINAGAR, Dec 26: As the night temperature in Srinagar dipped to minus 2.9 degree Celsius, the cold wave conditions gripped the winter capital of Jammu as well with temperatures dipping 6 degrees below normal. The weatherman has, however, forecast relief from cold wave condition by Thursday evening.
A Meteorological Department official said here today that the day temperature in winter capital Jammu was recorded at 13.9 degree Celsius, 6 degrees below normal. He said that the day temperature at this time of the year in Jammu should be 20 degrees Celsius. The weatherman said that the last night in Jammu was also colder as the temperature dipped to 7.9 degree Celsius, over one degree below normal.
The maximum temperature was recorded at 16.0 degree Celsius in Jammu yesterday while the minimum temperature was recorded at 9 degree Celsius. Due to continuous freak weather the day temperature today plummeted further by 2.1 degree Celsius as compared to yesterday.
The weatherman has forecast foggy weather conditions in Jammu for couple of days bringing the temperature further below the normal.
In Kashmir valley the night temperature further plummeted last night recording it at minus 2.9 degree Celsius. The day temperature was recorded at 10.2 degree Celsius in Srinagar.
The tourist resort of Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 7 degree Celsius while in Pahalgam it was recorded at minus 6.8 degree Celsius.
Leh in Ladakh region was the coldest place in the region with minimum temperature recorded at minus 15.9 degree Celsius while the maximum temperature was recorded at zero degree Celsius.
Kargil was the second coldest place with minimum temperature recorded at 15.4 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature was recorded at one degree Celsius.
The Weatherman has forecast relief from the dry weather and cold wave conditions by Thursday evening as there will be light to moderate snow and rainfall across the State.
The Weatherman has forecast rain and snowfall from December 27 and 29 across the State brining cheer to the tourist who have planned new year celebrations in Ski resort of Gulmarg.
“The night temperature will rise by a couple of degrees while the day temperature will decrease by 4-5 degrees Celsius by the precipitation between December 27 and 29”, says Weatherman forecast.
