SRINAGAR/ JAMMU, Mar 7: Rain and snow lashed J&K today with weatherman forecasting heavy downpour for next four days across the State.
A Meteorological Department official said that there is possibility of heavy rains in the plains in the next four days while the higher reaches of the Valley including Ladakh and maximum parts of Jammu region would witness fresh spell of snow during these days.
The official further said that most parts of Jammu region would also receive light to heavy rain and light snowfall at the higher reaches during the next four days.
Meanwhile, a large number of vehicles were left stranded on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway due to traffic jams in Chenani, Kud, Batote, Ramban and Banihal areas of Jammu region today. One-way traffic is plying from Jammu to Srinagar on the highway today. The traffic and local police had tough time to manage the traffic on the busy highway.
With the rain and snowfall at the higher reaches of Doda, Ramban, Rajouri, Poonch and Reasi, there is sharp fall in the temperature in most of the places in Jammu region. The people in the winter capital city (Jammu), who had pulled out their woolen clothes about a week back, were again seen clad in the warm clothing. Despite rain, Mata Vaishnodevi yatra was going on smoothly while helicopter service remained affected today.
Meanwhile, higher reaches of Bhaderwah received yet another spell of fresh snowfall while plains of whole Chenab region lashed with torrential rains since Tuesday afternoon.
The whole area has been gripped under severe cold conditions after fresh snowfall was reported from Kailash Kund, Aasha Pati, Chatargala, Padri Gali, Bhal Padri, Kenthi Dhar, Duggi, Shankhoja, Manglala, Gul Danda and Jaie Gathi since afternoon.
The fresh snowfall and torrential rains has triggered extreme cold wave conditions in entire Chenab belt especially in Bhaderwah Valley. A MeT official has predicted spells of rain in entire Chenab Valley and snowfall in higher reaches till Sunday.
