Rain-snow expected tomorrow, no respite from chill in J&K

SRINAGAR : Rain or snow is expected in next 24 hours in the Kashmir valley and Ladakh region, where there was no respite from the chilly weather conditions.    Leh in Ladakh region was coldest with minus 13.9 degree minimum temperature followed by Kargil with minus 13 degree.    A MET department spokesman however, said the minimum temperature will improve during next 24 hours as Western Disturbances (WD) is likely to hit the region which could result in rain or snow during the next 24 hours.    He said during the subsequent four days from December 22 there could be scattered rain or snow in Jammu and Kashmir.    People in Leh and Kargil continued to freeze as the minimum temperature remained below  minus 13 degree. Water bodies, including rivers and lakes remained frozen in the  region.
MET spokesman said the minimum temperature at Leh was minus 13.9 while it was minus 13 degree at Kargil.    World famous Dal Lake and other nallahs and ponds were also frozen as Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir , recorded coldest night of the season after the mercury dropped to minus 4.4, two notches below normal.    The sky was cloudy and ice cold winds continued, disrupting normal life. Construction works of damaged houses and shops due to flood was going on.    Pahalgam, the health resort in south Kashmir with minus 6.2 degree minimum temperature remained coldest in the valley followed by Qazigund minus 5.8 degree, Kupwara minus 4.7 , Gulmarg minus 3.4 and Kokernag minus 2.2 degree.
