SRINAGAR: Train service remained suspended for the second day today for security reasons in the Kashmir valley, where an encounter ensued between militants and security forces in Pulwama.
Yesterday the service was suspended for security reasons after the separatists had called for a general strike in protest against the killing of two civilians and two Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) militants on July Ist in Anantnag.
We have not resumed train service today in the Kashmir valley for security reasons, a railway official said.
He said there was a plan to resume train service today. However, after an encounter in Pulwama, security clearance from the authorities and police have not been received so far, he said.
Therefore, he said all train runs on Srinagar-Badgam in central Kashmir to Baramulla in north Kashmir remained suspended. Similarly trains operating on Badgam-Srinagar and Anantnag and Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu have also been cancelled.
The train services were suspended following advisory from Police and civil administration yesterday when there was a separatist strike call against the killing of two Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) in Anantnag on July Ist.
Train runs were suspended several times last month for security reasons on directions from the administration. (AGENCIES)
