Rahi claims low literacy among Gujjars

JAMMU, Jan 20: Tribal Research Foundation here today demanded new educational schemes for nomadic tribes keeping in view their migratory way of life.
In a programme on the topic ‘How to remove illiteracy among Gujjar-Bakerwal community’, Dr. Javaid Rahi of the Foundation said as per census 2011, seven out of every ten members of Gujjar-Bakerwal community are illiterate.
“Female literacy rate in Gujjar-Bakerwal community is worst with 82.2 per cent illiteracy,” Rahi said adding that only new and innovative educational scheme can tackle this problem.
He suggested affordable and inclusive education programme for tribal groups.
