Sir,
This has reference to various incidents of racial discrimination coupled with brutal hatred in different parts of the country, the recent being be spine chilling killing of Nido Tania, 19 years old student from Arunachal Pradesh. He was assaulted in a case of road rage. The matter could have been brushed off by the perpetrators of the crime but alas the so called modern civilized, progressive as well as literate people of our country turned so volatile and savage that being over powered by the torrent of anger they were irresistibly driven to wipe out their own species. It is excruciatingly painful to learn that Nido Tania fell prey to not only a worst kind of regional prejudice but also to the most heinous racial bias which does not augur well for the Nation. It is a strong pointer towards deep embedded Xenophobia in the psyche of Indian Diaspora through out the length and breadth of the country which comes to the fore in the event of happening of such unfortunate incidents.
It calls for fool proof damage control action plan at a double quick speed otherwise it may prove to be a tip of the ice berg of Indian brand of Apartheid. It may rapidly communicate to other sensitive parts of the country like viral infection. Unity in diversity was the hallmark of Indian way of life, pluralistic society and the multiculturalism but it appears we have lost touch with our civilizational roots. The polity is totally delinked from the fundamental principles and the larger goal of Sarve-Bhavantu-Sukhina (Happiness for all) as well as the philosophy of Vasu-Deva-Kutumbkum of which our country had been the high voltage power house. It is also indicative of the fact that we have not made any serious effort to inculcate the values of national integration, mutual brotherhood, racial tolerance and patriotism which are quintessence of a compact and United Nation.
In fact we are reaping what we have sown in the post independence era. We never focused on overhauling the system put in place by foreign rulers for the purpose of managing the India’s complex diversity for smooth governance. Instead we hastened to adopt the British model in its entirety without even an iota of change. No brain storming was done to review and assess as to whether rule of law established by them was in conformity with the Indian ethos temperament and the proclivities. The Nation clamours for change and the prevailing circumstances forcefully urge for firm resolve to hammer out the solution.
Yours etc….
