JAMMU, Aug 29: Police Headquarters today ordered attachment of Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Akhnoor Farooq Qaiser after his involvement in torture of youth Harbans Lal in Khour police station’s custody was prima facie established.
DySP Naresh Singh, presently posted in Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy (SKPA) Udhampur, has been posted as new SDPO Akhnoor in place of Qaiser.
The Police Headquarters has ordered attachment of Qaiser in the office of the IGP Jammu.
The people had been demanding action against the SDPO for torture of Harbans Lal alias Panchi Ram son of Buti Ram R/o Gharota, leading to his death in the custody of Khour police station on the intervening night of August 26 and 27.
Three police officials including SHO Khour Surinder Raina have already been placed under suspension in the case.
