As part of its state wide agitation programme to seek implementation of the 73rd and 74th amendments to the Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj Act, the Pradesh Youth Congress (PYC) would hand over memorandum to three Deputy Commissioners of the Kashmir valley in the next week.
Mohammad Shahnawaz Chaudhary, State President, Pradesh Youth Congress told Excelsior that the agitation would be intensified if the State Government does not incorporate the amendments in the Panchayati Raj Act. Shahnawaz said that the process of handing over the memorandum has been slowed due to the holy month of Ramzan.
“The memorandum would be submitted at the Tehsil level in the Jammu division and district wise in the Kashmir division. In the Kashmir division memorandum has been submitted to the deputy commissioners of Anantnag and Kupwara districts. On August 22 the memorandum would be submitted to the deputy commissioner of Ganderbal,” said Shahnawaz.
Shahnawaz said that memorandum would be submitted to the deputy commissioner of Budgam on August 23 followed by the handing over of the memorandum to the deputy commissioner of Srinagar on August 24. He said that on August 18 the youth Congress activists of Kathua district would hand over a memorandum to the Tehsil level officers.
“In the Kashmir division the protest rallies were organized in Anantnag and Kupwara districts while as more such rallies would be held at Ganderbal, Budgam and Srinagar over the next week. The entire Jammu division would also be covered by the end of this month and memorandum would be handed over to the concerned officials,” said Shahnawaz.
Shahnawaz said that once the process of handing over the memorandum is over the Youth Congress activists would sit on dharna and raise their demands in public presence. He said the agitation would be taken to its logical conclusion adding that State Government should order for the immediate incorporation of the amendments to the state Panchayati Raj Act.
