JAMMU, Feb 24: Over thirty activists of Youth Congress were today detained by the police when they were holding protest demonstration and tried to take out rally from Press Club here today.
A large number of PYC activists under the leadership of State president Pranav Shagotra assembled at Exhibition Ground and tried to take out `Shav Yatra (funeral procession) of BJP led NDA Government for its alleged failure. A large number of youth workers of the party had assembled for the protest march.
As the PYC activists started their march towards Dogra Chowk, a strong contingent of police party stopped them. The police foiled their protest march despite some resistance shown by the agitating activists. Some slogan shouting PYC members moved through the barricades created by the police but they too were stopped by the cops. About 30 PYC activists including PYC chief were detained by police and shifted to Nawabad police station. They were later released.
Earlier addressing the PYC activists, Mr Shagotra lambasted BJP led NDA Government for its failure on all fronts. He said that woes of the common masses are compounding with every passing day due to misdeeds of the NDA Government. He said the BJP leaders had promised to solve problems of the border residents by providing them shelter at alternative places but the same promise remained only on papers. He also expressed concern over the increase of ceasefire violation across the border during the last nearly two years and said that Modi Govt failed to deal with the situation.
Pointing towards prevailing political uncertainty in J&K, PYC president said that BJP and PDP both are responsible for the present situation.
Prominent among those who participated and were detained included Rajvir Manhas, Pankaj Basotra, Paramjeet Singh, Balbir Singh, Chetan Wanchoo, Charanjeet Singh (Cheeku), Kamaljeet Singh, Hoshiar Singh, Anoop Gupta, Rocky Choudhary, Aijaz Choudhary, Jagjot Singh, Arun Singh, Shabir Kohli, Manjeet Singh Sarkaria, Lucky Singh and others.
