PYAC demands ST status for Pahari speaking people

RAJOURI, Feb 7: Pahari Youth Action Committee (PYAC) today reiterated its demand of granting ST status to Pahari speaking people.
The demand was raised during a Pahari delegate session organized by PYAC at Lamberi. Vinod Kumar and Dr Suresh Kumar presided the session in two shifts. A large number of youth participated in the programme.
The PYAC leaders while addressing the session appealed the participants to remain united ignoring religion politics and fight against discrimination with community since independence.
Both the leaders appealed Pahari youth to come forward and launch peaceful struggle against the clear cut discrimination meted out with them for more than 30 years. The leaders appealed Governor to view seriously the long pending demands of the community.
Shahbaz Khan, chairman, J&K Pahari People Movement (JKPPM) while addressing the youth said that Pahari youth is the worst victim in the present age and in order to provide guaranteed future to the most dejected and frustrated youth it is inevitable for the State and Central Government to pay their immediate attention to this aspect and grant ST Status to the Pahari speaking people of entire Rajouri-Poonch region except Gujjars who are enjoying the Status since last 27 years.
Terming Pahari community more nomadic than Gujjars, Khan said that Central Government should respect the State Legislative Assembly by responding positively to the resolution passed by it and referred to the Center for granting Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to Paharies by the house few years ago.
