JAMMU, Aug 12: Hundreds of casual labourers of PWD Department organized a protest demonstration in front of the Lok Nirman Bhawan, Panama Chowk, here today to press the Government to regularize all casual labourers and need based workers engaged in the department after 1994.
The casual labourers were protesting under the banner of J&K PWD Casual Labourers’ Union. They said as all the important assignments in the Department are run by the casual labourers and need based workers due to retirement of permanent employees of the Department, they (casual labourers and need based workers) deserve sympathetic and favourable consideration regarding regularization.
They urged the Government to frame an appropriate regularization policy for all casual labourers and need based workers who are working in the department for last more than 10 to 15 years, adding the delaying tactics of the Government regarding regularization are creating a sense of resentment among them.
