JAMMU, May 14: The School Education Department today ordered that the private schools can charge tuition fees from the students but only on monthly basis, instead of quarterly basis for the lockdown period while no fees hike should be made during the academic session 2020-21.
Instructions in this regard were issued today vide circular number 1-Edu of 2020, which further makes it clear that annual fees, if any, can be charged monthly on pro-rata basis after schools reopen while no school shall deny access to online education material/classes to poor/deserving students unable to pay school fees due to prevailing situation.
A view regarding transport charges shall be taken separately, says the circular, issued by Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon, Principal Secretary, School Education Department.
It may be recalled that the private schools were earlier instructed by the Department to defer collection of fees till April 30 because of COVID-19 lockdown. Following recent representation of the Private Schools Association for issuing instructions regarding collection of tuition fees etc to ensure drawal of salary for staff posted in such school, the department today issued the circular instructions for compliance by all concerned.
The circular also declared that registration of private schools, which has expired during lockdown period, shall be deemed valid till lockdown period is over.
