JAMMU, Dec 10: A two day All India Punjabi Writers’ Conference organized by J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) was inaugurated here today.
Prof Deepak Manmohan Singh, Senior Fellow Punjabi University, Patiala and eminent Punjabi writer and critic was the chief guest and Khalid Hussain, prominent Punjabi and Urdu short story writer presided over the function.
Kanwal Kashmiri, senior Punjabi writer presented key note address.
Dr Aziz Hajini, Secretary and Dr Arvinder Singh Amn, Additional Secretary JKAACL were also present at the presidium.
While delivering his presidential address, Khalid Hussain said that Punjabi literature of the State has rich tradition and culture and legendary figures who contributed for Punjabi literature and their documentation is much required for which the scholars and students of the region should come forward.
Prof Deepak Manmohan Singh, in his address hoped that this conference will conclude with certain guidelines and observations which will help to proceed further for the development and promotion of the Punjabi language and literature of the State.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr Aziz Hajini stressed upon the need to work seriously for the promotion and development of Punjabi literature and language and the literature being written in the State.
The vote of thanks was extended by Dr. Arvinder Singh while proceedings of the inaugural session were conducted by Popinder Singh Paras, Editor Sheeraza Punjabi JKAACL.
