Punjab s  Bill Liao Inam Pao  scheme achieves milestone with Rs 3.35 crore in prizes

CHANDIGARH, Aug 10: Punjab Minister Harpal Singh Cheema today hailed the resounding success of the state’s “Bill Liao Inam Pao” initiative, a programme designed to boost tax compliance and citizen involvement.

Speaking at a press briefing, state Finance, Planning, Excise, and Taxation minister Cheema revealed that since its launch in September 2023, the scheme has seen 1,76,832 bills uploaded via the ‘Mera Bill’ app, leading to 5,644 winners claiming prizes totaling Rs 3,35,80,215.

The minister highlighted that the scheme has imposed penalties worth Rs 9,07,06,102 on entities violating billing norms, with Rs 7,30,92,230 already recovered, strengthening fiscal oversight. Additionally, it has spurred 135 new tax registrations, expanding the state’s revenue base.

In the latest draw held on August 7 in Patiala, involving 6,345 bills uploaded in July 2025, 257 winners shared Rs 15,30,015 in prizes. Cheema assured that prize money is swiftly transferred to winners’ accounts upon receiving banking details, urging participants to submit information promptly.

Excluding bills for petroleum products, liquor, out-of-state purchases, and business-to-business transactions, the scheme considers only receipts from the previous month for draws, ensuring fairness.

Cheema encouraged Punjab residents to upload bills, noting that each entry supports anti-evasion efforts and offers a chance to win, reflecting the AAP-led government’s push for a transparent fiscal system. (UNI)
