Punjab Cong chief asks party leaders to join online campaign on May 28

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar on Wednesday appealed to party leaders and workers to join an online campaign on May 28 to demand from the Centre that Rs 10,000 be deposited in the accounts of poor families.

Besides party members, Jakhar also appealed to people to become part of this campaign to remind the Modi government of the plight of poor people.

The Congress will launch a ‘SpeakUp’ campaign on May 28 to help raise the voice of the poor, migrants, small businesses and the middle class people before the central government, party spokesperson Ajay Maken said, adding that party leaders, workers and sympathisers will run the online campaign from 11 am to 2 pm on Thursday.

“I appeal to my senior party leaders, MPs, MLAs, executive members and booth workers, and also to everyone to remind the Modi government of the poor people through social media on May 28 from 11 am to 2 pm,” Jakhar said.

He said people should raise their voices through social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter and Instagram on Thursday so the Centre provides Rs 10,000 as immediate financial help to the poor.

“Today, they cannot see the plight of the poor,” Jakhar said, attacking the central government.

Poor families and vulnerable sections need cash as they are out of jobs for the past two months, he added.

“The government needs to be reminded of the pain of migrant workers who are going back to their home towns on foot in the scorching heat,” Jakhar said.

He said small shopkeepers, micro, small and medium enterprises were also in the need of money, and not slogans, to resume operations. (AGENCIES)
