
*Cong suffered after alliance with NC: Wani

PURMANDAL, May 31: Former Speaker, Dy Chief Minister and working president of JKPCC, Tara Chand today asked the party cadre to gear up for the forthcoming Panchayat and Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections in the Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a party convention in Purmandal area of district Samba today, former Dy Chief Minister said that process of Panchayat, BDC, DDC, and ULB elections is being started shortly. The necessary exercise for this process has already been set in motion. He asked the party workers and other functionaries to pull up their socks and gear up for the upcoming elections.
Tara Chand said that he has been making all efforts to strengthen the organisation as per the directions of party president, Mallikarjun Kharge and LOP Rahul Gandhi. He also referred to the impressive worker’s conferences organised by him in Akhnoor division recently to strengthen the party. He gave a clarion call to the party cadre to pull up their socks and prepare for the coming civic bodies and Panchayat elections. Even the Assembly elections might take place sooner than expected, he cautioned.
Former JKPCC president and CWC Member, Vikar Rasool Wani said the purpose of the Congress entering into an alliance with National Conference was to keep the BJP and its allies away, has been defeated due to mishandling by vested interests of a coterie in the PCC.
“Right from entering into alliance to the present day, the situation has gone from bad to worse with Congress suffering a lot. It is the right time for the party high command to have a close look into the entire affair including the running of the organisation,” he added.
Wani announced that the people of Jammu and Kashmir shall unite and strengthen the Indian National Congress which is the only viable alternative to the BJP. Congress alone is capable of solving the problems of people of the country and to maintain communal harmony, peace and tranquility, he added.
Working president (acting) and senior advocate Mohinder Bhardwaj said that every committed Congressmen should actively respond to Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s call and efforts to strengthen the organisation at all levels.
He said Gandhi had started this process in a grand fashion by embarking on a nationwide Bharat Jodo Yatra which was also aimed at rejuvenating the Congress by connecting with leaders and workers on ground-zero. Bhardwaj said this event is aimed at taking forward Gandhi’s endeavour and preparing the party for coming challenges for which he has been leading the party from the front. The immediate challenge before us is the coming Panchayat and civic body elections in Jammu and Kashmir and strengthen our fight for restoration of statehood.
Dr Manohar Lal, former MLA from Billawar, said that there is dire need to hold such conferences all over Jammu and Kashmir as a reach out programme to connect with workers and people at large. He asked the workers to remain united with a positive intent to fight the serious challenges posed by the communal and divisive forces.
