SRINAGAR, Sept 8: Dozens of public sector employees today protested here and demanded release of their withheld salaries and fulfillment of other pending demands.
The employees of various public sector units assembled here at press enclave and raised slogans against the State Government. The employees were holding banners and placards. The employees accused the Government of anti-public sector approach and demanded release of withheld salaries.
They said that the salaries of employees of Jammu and Kashmir (JK) Industries, JK Cements, JK Handloom Development Corporation, HPMO, Agro Industries and Arts Emporium are pending from several months. “We appealed and approached Government on numerous occasions over the fulfillment of our demand. Though the Government assured us of immediate action but nothing was done afterwards,” the employees said.
Besides the release of withheld salaries, the employees have presented series of demands before the Government which include release of 6th pay commission arrears from 2006, implementation of SRO 43, introduction of pension scheme in all public sector units and release of all pending DA installments.
After completing their protest, the employees tried to march towards Civil Secretariat but the police intercepted them just outside the press enclave and detained several of their leaders. However they were released later.
