Public participation necessary for development: Kavinder

JAMMU, May 5: Speaker Legislative Assembly and MLA, Gandhi Nagar Kavinder Gupta today visited various sectors of Sainik Colony and listened to the demands of the residents of the area.
During his visit, the Speaker asked the people to actively participate in developmental activities of the State and said that it is the duty of every citizen to play role in keeping the surroundings clean and green.
The residents of Sainik Colony Sector-B raised various issues before the Speaker including blacktopping of roads, construction of parking strip, removal of encroachments along nallah between Sector-B and Adarsh Nagar and providing uninterrupted power supply in the area.
The Sainik Co-op House Building Society Ltd. Jammu submitted a memorandum to the Speaker demanding regular supply of water, macadamization of roads of Sector A, B, C and G including Ward No. 69, construction of Rotary on NH1-A near Major Babbar Chowk for regulating the traffic and avoiding fatal accidents, repair of damaged lights in the parks and construction of cremation ground in the area.
The residents of Ambika Colony also raised the issues related to blacktopping of main road, dismantling of old electricity poles lying defunct along the roads and supply of clean drinking water in the area.
While addressing the gathering, the Speaker said that the roads in Sainik Colony would be blacktopped in a stipulated time frame and instructed the officers of the concerned department to take up the construction work of roads of the area on priority basis.
The Speaker also instructed the officers of PHE to check leakage of water pipes and ensure that the residents get clean drinking water. He further said that various developmental works have been initiated for the development of the state and providing clean drinking water, uninterrupted power supply and road connectivity to the people is the top priority of the Government.
Executive Engineer PHE VK Khajuria, Executive Engineer PDD Sudhir Gupta, Executive Engineer Jammu Municipal Corporation Joginder Pal and Assistant Executive Engineer PWD (R&B) Rafiq Sheikh also accompanied the Minister during the visit.
