PSA slapped on habitual bovine smuggler

KISHTWAR, June 3: District Magistrate Kishtwar, Pankaj Kumar Sharma, has ordered preventive detention of Mohd Saleem, son of Nissar Ahmed, resident of Bagla Dali, District Doda, under the provisions of J&K Public Safety Act (PSA), 1978.
The action was taken on the basis of a dossier submitted by the SSP Kishtwar which revealed the subject’s repeated involvement in organized illegal transportation and smuggling of bovine animals across District Doda, Kishtwar and adjoining areas.
Despite previous criminal involvement, the subject continued to indulge in similar activities, demonstrating a habitual tendency and complete disregard for the law.
The District Magistrate, Kishtwar, observed that such activities poses serious communal ramifications and have the potential to disturb public tranquility, communal harmony and the even tempo of life.
It was further found that ordinary criminal law had failed to deter the subject from pursuing his unlawful activities.
Being satisfied that the subject’s activities were highly prejudicial to the maintenance of public order, the District Magistrate invoked the provisions of PSA and ordered his detention.
The detenue has been lodged in District Jail, Kishtwar.
