PS Baramulla attacked, searches launched

Srinagar, Dec 2: Militants this evening hurled a grenade towards police station Baramulla in North Kashmir and fired at a trader in Shopian district of South Kashmir while security forces conducted search operations at several parts of Kashmir valley today.
Militants at around 6.50 p.m attacked Police Station Baramulla with a grenade. However, it missed the intended target and exploded on road.
A cop, who was performing his duty as Sentry on the entrance of police station, opened fire in air. However, no one was injured. The explosion and the firing incident created panic in the area and people were seen rushing towards cover.
Soon after the incident, security forces launched searches in the area to nab the militants responsible for the attack.
Militants tonight shot at an apple trader Mukhtar Ahmad Bhat, 30, son of Ghulam Mohd Bhat outside his residence at Keegam in Shopian district of South Kashmir.
Police said that Mukhtar was hit by three bullets in his legs and has been rushed to Shopian hospital where from he was referred to Srinagar for specialized treatment.
Meanwhile, soon after the incident police, Army and CRPF rushed to the spot and launched searches in a bid to nab the attackers.
Security forces today launched a cordon-and-search-operation (CASO) in Rathsuna village of central Kashmir’s Budgam district after reports about presence of militants in the village. The operation was launched around 3.40 p.m  but was called off after no militants were found in the village.
Security forces also conducted searches in Arigam village of Tral in South Kashmir after reports of presence of militants. The village was sealed off by Army’s 24 Rashtriya Rifles, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF early today. House to house searches were conducted but the operation was later called off as, sources said, militant had fled the village before the operation was launched.
Clashes erupted in Trichal village of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district today after youth pelted stones on the security forces near Naira village where a cordon-and-search-operation was launched this morning.
Reports said that youth took to streets and pelted stones on the vehicles carrying security forces near Naira village.
Security forces, however, conducted searches in the village but no militants were found as sources said they had fled before the operation was launched.
Earlier in the day, security forces launched CASO in Naira and Tahab villages of Pulwama. Security forces launched the operation after inputs about the presence of militants in these areas.
House-to-house searches were conducted by the security forces to look for the militants. However, no contact was established with the militants and militants had fled before the operation was launched.
