Provide district status to Billawar, Basohli; regularize daily wagers: DCC

KATHUA, Sept 9: District Congress Committee (DCC) Kathua, led by its president Dr Manohal Lal Sharma former minister urged upon the Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha to provide district status to Billawar and Basohli, tackle rising unemployment problem and regularize daily wagers of all the departments.
In a memorandum submitted to the LG of J&K UT today, Manohar Lal strongly demanded that Billawar and even Basohli deserve district status in view of their vast area and population. This old demand of the people of this area be fulfilled.
The DCC further pointed out that educated youth are facing unemployment problem. Since long no post was advertised. The Government must provide employment opportunities to the educated youth because they are the most frustrated lot today.
Dr Manohar further demanded regularization of over 65,000 daily rated workers/ casual labourers engaged in various Government departments and Corporations in J&K. Their pending wages should also be cleared, he demanded.
The DCC team also demanded that all the three Toll Plazas established in Jammu region be withdrawn without any more delay. They also demanded compensation for the farmers whose crops have been damaged due to rains, hail storms or border shelling. They also demanded compensation for the rain-flood affected people in the region besides putting an end to the illegal mining going on with the connivance of insiders in G&M department.
The Congress leaders demanded that Government must ensure adequate supply of drinking water in all the area of Kathua, specially in Kandi belt.
Prominent among those who accompanied Sharma included Ex-MLC, Subhash Gupta, Haider Malik (Ex-MLA Bani), Pankaj Dogra, D S Bindu and others.
