Srinagar, Dec 16: The protests against the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD) Department continued in the Srinagar city today demanding revocation of recent order on ration distribution.
People took to streets and raised anti-Government slogans to press for their demands. The protesters also blocked the main roads and asked the state administration to revoke the order at earliest or face agitation.
Protesters, mostly women blocked the movement of traffic near Bemina crossing to press for their demands. The blockade led to traffic jams from Parimpora to Tengpora.
The protesters shouting slogans against the Government alleged they are denied their ration in the name of National Food Security Act.
“We don’t need this act. Under this act, they are providing us few kilos of rice which are not sufficient for us,” said protesters.
“Earlier, we were provided 35 kilos of rice per month. Now they will provide us two kilos. Does that sound justice to us,” they said.
Residents of Kohnakhun area of Dalgate also held a protest against the department and accused the state administration for failing to provide benefits to the people here.
