JAMMU, Aug 5: At least half a dozen persons including an Assistant Sub Inspector and three cops were injured during violent protests in Rajouri, forcing police to lob tear gas shells and lathi-charge while partial bandh and protests after Friday prayers were also held at Surankote, Kishtwar, Bhaderwah and Banihal towns against civilians’ killings in Kashmir.
Meanwhile, mobile internet services were restored in five districts tonight while they remained suspended in five other districts of Jammu region, where protests were reported today.
IGP Jammu Zone, Danesh Rana told the Excelsior that the administration was closely watching the situation and has taken adequate measures to maintain peace and law & order in entire Jammu region.
Rana said the persons involved in shouting of objectionable slogans have been identified and would be arrested soon. “The law will take its own course against those fomenting trouble,’’ he said.
The IGP said mobile internet services, which were suspended early today in entire Jammu region, were restored in Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Udhampur and Reasi districts tonight but they remained suspended in Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Rajouri and Poonch districts.
“A decision on restoration of internet in five districts will be taken tomorrow,’’ Rana said.
Reports from Rajouri said that after Fridays prayers this afternoon, some people from different mosques arrived near Gujjar Mandi Chowk and started forcibly closing shops. Some people objected to it but some of the miscreants among the protesters started stone pelting on few shops. In the process, the front glasses of a shop of Halwai were broken. The police was already deployed there and the cops resorted to mild lathicharge to quell the mob and contained possible clash.
Another group of people from new bridge side was also noticed by police moving towards main market. The cops challenged them but some people in the mob resorted to stone pelting. The police lobbed at least ten teargas shells on the mob. Some miscreants also damaged about half a dozen vehicles including an ambulance in the area.
During stoning, four cops including an ASI were injured besides two civilians. Some people in the mob also raised provocative slogans. They were raising slogans against violence in Kashmir, demanding restoration of peace.
Reports from Poonch said that Surankote town observed bandh as some people after Friday prayers came out on the road and took out protest march in the town. They were raising provocative slogans. The protest remained peaceful but market remained closed for about half day.
Reports from Kishtwar and Bhadwerwah said that partial bandh was observed in both these towns in support of Kashmir turmoil and deaths of many people. Protest marches were also taken out .The people were shouting provocative slogans. Similar protest marches and bandh were also observed at Banihal and Doda towns today.
