Protest of disabled

Groups of disabled persons in Srinagar and Jammu have staged protest rallies on the occasion of World Disabled Day. Their associations have brought out rallies and submitted a charter of demands to the State Chief Minister.  Their demands are genuine and need to be shown consideration and sympathy. The UN has declared it the day for the welfare of disable people. The demands of reservation in services, 50 percent concession in electric charges, free water connections, reservation in Legislative Assembly, Legislative Council, Municipal and Panchayats on the analogy of Gujjar and Bakerwals etc. are not something that could be called extraordinary.
We think that the Government should consider these demands sympathetically as these seem reasonable. The annual budget should provide for their welfare. Of course their categorization has to be made on the basis of the type of disability they have and the capacity of delivery that can be expected from them.
