RAJOURI, May 23: The people held protest demonstration near Chingus and blocked Jammu-Rajouri road for about an hour while members of labour class held strong protest against RDD authorities at Mendhar town of Poonch for the non-payment of their long pending MG-NREGA wages.
Reports from Rajouri said that people from Dhanwa area of Chingus today blocked road at around 2 pm and disrupted the movement of vehicles in protest against the missing of a local youth for about an hour. The villagers alleged that despite lodging missing report of youth Pankaj Dutta, son of Balram Dutta, resident of Patli village, the police failed to trace the boy since yesterday.
The people sat on busy Jammu-Rajouri highway and disrupted movement of vehicles. Later, SHO Rajouri, Naib Tehsildar and Incharge PP Chingus reached there and they assured the people to trace the boy shortly as police teams were already on the job. The people then lifted dharna. The boy was however, traced in the evening.
Meanwhile, a large number of labourers held protest outside BDO office Mendhar today demanding release of their pending wages for the last about two years under MGNREGA. The villagers alleged that they have not been paid for the last two years and BDO and concerned staff do not give proper reply about the release of their wages when ever they visit office.
ACD Poonch, Bashrat Ahmed claimed that there was liability to the tune of over Rs 40 crore under MGNREGA works in district Poonch. The Government paid Rs 10.75 crore few months back and funds at the rate of 25 % were provided to all the BDOs in the district to clear the liability. He said as and when more funds are provided the workers’ liability will be cleared.
