RAJOURI, Aug 11: The villagers from adjoining villages of Thannamandi today held protest against the R&B (PMGSY) authorities for worst condition of Thannamandi-Dhok road.
A large number of villagers from adjoining hamlets assembled at Thannamandi town today and started protest demonstration. They were shouting slogans against district administration and the R&B/ PMGSY authorizes. The villagers including Panchayat members alleged that this 10 kms road was constructed by under PMGSY by the R&B authorities Rajouri about 4-5 years back. After cutting work, no retaining walls and side drains were constructed. The road was remained in use for several months but due to land slides at many places and flow of water, its condition has been worsened. The land slides from hill side and flow of rain water also damaged many houses along the road.
They pointed out that despite several requests to concerned authorities, no cognizance of the matter has been taken. The protesters also blocked road for some time.
Later, SDM Thannamandi Surinder Kumar reached there and he assured the agitating villagers to take up the matter with the concerned higher officials. The villagers then lifted dharna.
