MENDHAR, Dec 30: Demanding OBC status to the community in Jammu and Kashmir, Poonch Jaat Youths Federation and Jaat Students Union held a protest demonstration, here today.
The protest was organized under the banner of All J&K Jaat Sabha.
The youth and student activists of the community assembled in the Tehsil office Mendhar and raised slogan in support of their demand. They also submitted a memorandum to Tehsildar Mendhar explaining the points in support of their demand of OBC status to Jaat community.
The Jaat community in J&K is educationally, socially & economically backward and thus deserves OBC status, the memorandum says with an appeal to UPA Government, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to positively consider their demand.
Those who spoke on the occasion, included Choudhary Adil Rahim, president, Javaid Jatt, Advocate Fareed Ahmed Choudhary, Advocate Showket Choudhary (Sarpanch), Advocate Basharat Ahmed Choudhary, Advocate Naseer Ahmed Choudhary (Sarpanch), Advocate Sajad Ahmed Choudhary, Advocate Tahir Ahmed Choudhary, Sarpanch Azam Choudhary, Sarpanch Kabeer Ahmed Choudhary, Mukhtar Ahmed Choudhary, Haji Maneer, Master Rashid Ahmed Choudhary and others.
