NOWSHERA, July 30: People from Kalakote town and Sailsui area held protest demonstration against health authorities for not providing adequate staff at local Sub District Hospital here.
The people including members of the Beopar Mandal Kalakote shut their business establishments and started protest demonstration. They were raising slogans, demanding posting of specialist doctors at SDH Kalakote. They also raised slogans against State Government, Chief Minister and Minister for Health and Medical Education.
The protest started after a young girl Rozy (17), daughter of Girdhari Lal, hailing from Sailsui area was brought to Kalakote Hospital last evening. She had consumed some poisonous substance. There was no doctor available in the hospital and Medical staff referred her to GMC Jammu. The girl however, died near Siot on way to Jammu.
The body of the girl was removed to Kalakote Hospital for postmortem this morning. The people from the town and from Sailsui area today started protest at around 9.30 am. They alleged that despite having sanctioned strength of 18 doctors including BMO in this hospital only two are in place. During odd hours no doctor is available. In last one month three deaths have taken place in the hospital as a result the people of the area are suffering. The market was closed and a large number of people went on protest.
Later, Tehsildar Kalakote arrived there. He talked to DC on phone and also assured to take up the issue with Director Health Services Jammu for posting of more doctors. The people suspended protest at around 12.30 pm.
In District Hospital Rajouri also some people lodged protest after a doctor asked attendants of a patient to purchase drip set and Glucose bottle from the market. Patient Shahzad Shawl from Thannamandi had been referred to DH Rajouri after some abdomen pain this morning. Later, a senior doctor inquired about the matter and then assured the protesters that this facility was available in the hospital.
