RAJOURI, May 29: People from Thannamandi town held strong protest demonstration against the GREF authorities and State Administration for their failure to repair/ upgrade Rajouri-Thannamandi-Bafliaz Road.
A large number of people from the town including Beopar Mandal members came out on the road at reached at Shahdara Chowk and blocked the road at around 2 pm and started protest demonstration. They were shouting slogans against Chief Engineer GREF, Mufti Govt, R&B authorities and District Administration Rajouri. The people alleged that condition of Rajouri-Thannamandi road has turned worst. It is broken all over but the concerned agencies have never bothered to go for repair. The people are badly suffering. This road leads to Mughal Road and no upgradation has been taken up.
Several prominent leaders including Haji Mohiuddin (Beopar Mandal president), Nazir Ganai, Shakeel Ahmed Mir, Mushtaq Shawl and Bismil Raina addressed the gathering and criticized the authorities for their approach of neglect. Later, SDPO, SHO and Tehsildar Thannamandi reached the spot ans pacified the agitating people. On their assurance they suspended agitation at 4 pm. A large number of vehicles remained stranded for over two hours.
Meanwhile, the people from Ward No. 4 and adjoining areas held protest at Panja Chowk in the town here against water and power shortage. The people disrupted traffic for some time and raised slogans against PDD and PHE officials. Later with the intervention of DySP Hqrs Hamid Choudhary and SHO Yash Pal Jamwal the protest was suspended.
