JAMMU, May 29: Sikh United Front (J&K) has said that District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (DGPC) elections in the State are being held on the directions of the High Court and Mahant Manjit Singh ji, religious head from Dera Nangali Sahib should play his role in it.
Addressing joint press conference here today, leaders of various Sikh bodies under the banner of Sikh United Front- Avtar Singh Khalsa, Mohinder Singh, Ramneek Singh Bijral and Paramjit Singh said that these elections were delayed only due to the litigations by the vested interests and these are now being held on the directions of the Division Bench of the J&K High Court. They alleged that some people were trying to take credit and mislead the people on the issue of delay in the elections. They said the elected DGPC Jammu was dismissed by the Chairman DGPB for his vested interests and since then the affairs are being run by the non-Sikh head (Div Comm), which is against the ‘Sikh Maryada’. One Dalip Singh is mainly looking after the affairs of the Jammu District Committee.
Avtar Singh alleged that in last 12 years no audit was conducted of the DGPC funds by the Committee. Sikh Sangat alleged misuse of funds. DC Jammu had also issued directions to the so called committee for conducting audit vide his letter dated 6-8-2011 but they did not bother. He said S Mohinder Singh, Ramneek Singh and Manmohan Singh filed petition in the High Court demanding early conduct of elections, Now, Division Bench of the High Court in response to a contempt petition, has directed the Divisional Commissioner Jammu and Financial Commissioner to complete the election process by 8-7-2015.
These community members claimed that Sikh Sangat has appealed Mahant Manjit Singh ji of Dera Nangali Sahib Poonch to play his vital role in the coming Gurdwara Committee elections to ensure that candidates with better background, clean image and public acceptability are elected to the DGPCs. They also appealed the Sikh community members to elect only clean image, dedicated and good people in the elections.
Surinder Singh Kala and G S Gill ( Retd SP) besides Fateh Singh, Darvinder Singh, Gajjan Singh and Harpreet Singh were also present.
