REASI, Sept 19: A large number of youth and locals of Reasi town staged a protest demonstration outside District Hospital Reasi today, highlighting the acute shortage of doctors and medical staff in this hospital.
The protesters alleged that despite being the district’s only major hospital catering to a large population, several key specialists have not been deputed.
They pointed out that no Anesthetist, Dermatologist, and Nephrologist is available at the hospital, which forces patients to travel long distances to Jammu or other districts for treatment. “This is called mere a District Hospital, without specialists, while the patients are suffering every day,” a protesting youth said.
Karandeep, a youth leader who spearheaded the protest, said that although the hospital has a NICU Ward with advanced machinery, it remains non-operational due to lack of trained staff. “What is the use of spending lakhs on equipment when there is no manpower to run it? The authorities must wake up to the plight of common people,” he added.
The protesters also demanded immediate filling up of vacant posts, regular availability of doctors, and proper functioning of critical care units in the hospital. They warned that the agitation would continue daily until their demands are met.
