Srinagar, Oct 6: Police are investigating the cause of death of a woman in Kokernag area of South Kashmir after protests broke out today in the area alleging police raid on her house behind the death.
Residents said that a woman Mukhti of village Aahalan Gadool in district Anantnag died soon after police conducted raid in their house and recovered a forest product.
Residents protested against the death of the woman and held police responsible for it.
A police spokesman said here that police have taken cognizance of death of the woman. “A police Party had recovered 3.3 kilogrammes forest product, discoreia, from a cowshed in the village. Police Station Kokernag have registered a case under FIR No 173/2012 U/S 379RPC, 6 F A Act, in this regard”, the spokesman added.
Police spokesman said that after the Police party left the spot, the lady developed some chest pain and was rushed to hospital where she died because of cardiac arrest. “Inquest proceedings U/S 174 CRPC have been initiated”, the spokesman added.
