MENDHAR, Mar 12: The angry people from Mendhar town today held protest against the Jal Shakti Department due to non-availability of drinking water in Mendhar area of Poonch district.

The local residents from Shiv Mandir and Fire Station locality near Darana Chowk, Mendhar today held protest against the PHE/ Jal Shakti Department. The demonstration took place under the chairmanship of social worker, Basharat Ahmed, where in, the loud slogans were raised against the Jal Shakti Department, Mendhar.
The protesting people alleged that the PHE Department was not supplying drinking water for the last more than six months in this area of Mendhar because the water pipes were lying broken at various places. They said there is a Shiv temple in that area and water is not available even there during the Puja time. The month of Ramzan has also started and people are forced to bring water from the far away. The matter was taken up with the concerned department official but till date neither pipes are repaired, nor the water supply has been restored.
Some locals of the area including Pandit Gobind Shankar, Rohit Harjai, Rajesh Sawhney, Sham Gupta and others have sought intervention of District Administration Poonch and the Chief Engineer PHE Jammu. They sought strict action against the irresponsible PHE officials at Mendhar.
Tehsildar Mendhar Rahul Basotra said the matter was in his notice. “I will talk to the officials of Jal Shakti Department and get the supply of drinking water restored in a day or two,” he claimed.
