RAJOURI, Aug 20: Residents from Budhal in district Rajouri today took out a protest march in Budhal against the inclusion of non-local voters in the electoral rolls in Jammu and Kashmir.
This comes three days after Chief Electoral Officer, Hirdesh Kumar said that J&K is likely to get around 25 lakh additional voters, including outsiders, after the special summary revision of electoral rolls was held for the first time since the abrogation of Article 370.
Several PDP, NC leaders led by the District vice president PDP Farooq Inqlabi, Provincial secretary YNC Waqar Lone took out the march from Main Bazar Budhal.
While addressing protesting peoples Inqlabi said that this is dangerous step for democracy and is much more than a mischief. Democracy is a relic especially in the context of Kashmir. He said the protest was against the “electoral demographic change being forced by the BJP” through inclusion of “imported voters” in the Jammu Kashmir electoral rolls.
Stating that the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir are being trampled YNC leader Waqar Lone said that, BJP started the process of taking away the peoples’ rights and diluting public will here on August 5, 2019 and now they have added a new chapter to it by saying they will add non-local voters. Lone said the people of J&K will not tolerate such move.
